What is Tús Maith?
Tús Maith or the Home Language Visitor Scheme is an initiative of the Irish Language & Cultural organisation Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne, based in Ballyferriter, Co. Kerry (since 2005) to support families raising their children through Irish, both native speakers and also those non-Irish speakers who wish to use more Irish in their daily lives or prepare their children for Irish medium Early Childhood or Primary and Post-Primary education in the West Kerry Gaeltacht. Tús Maith organises home language visits, play groups, special annual events such as an Easter Egg Hunt and an activity club for young native speakers, Scléip an tSathairn to assist parents in their efforts to access Irish speaking only activities.
The scheme Tús Maith employs a Supervisor and four Home Language Visitors who are native speakers of Irish, who raised their own families through Irish and who have completed a Certificate in Continuing Professional Development from Dublin Institute of Technology.
This service is suitable for infants and children up to 4 years. Language choice is discussed with prospective parents, or by the Supervisor as part of pre-natal groups organised by the Health Service Executive in Tralee. A Bounty Pack is presented to new parents on the birth of a child. A Home Language visit is arranged at a time to suit all. Help is available to native speakers whose children’s language will benefit from being enriched – by story, song, verse etc. Advice is given to other parents on the best approach to adopt with regard to language development in the home. A resource library is available for parents who wish to access listening, reading and play material.

Orla Uan Scéal & CD
Uainín beag gleoite atá ábalta labhairt is ea Orla Uan. Éist léithe, bí leithe agus í ag imirtagus ag labhairt Gaelainne ar Chruach Mhárthain.
Má iompaíonn leanaí/déagóirí ar Bhéarla…deich bpíosa comhairle
Go minic nuair a bhímid ag labhairt lenár gcuid leanaí as Gaeilge, freagraíonn siad as Béarla. Tá a leithéid coitianta go leor, ní amháin anseo ach i dtíortha eile má bhíonn an teanga timpeallaithe ag mórtheanga dhomhanda mar Bhéarla.
Cad is ceart a dhéanamh má tharlaíonn a leithéid?
